Jesus compares His love and care for His sheep to a “hireling.” This person runs away when there is danger. He is not emotionally involved with his sheep. His interests are his own, not the interests of His sheep. By comparison, Jesus, our Good Shepherd, “knows” His sheep - He knows us intimately. And He promises that not one of His sheep will be lost. What an amazing thought when we grasp that kind of love.
