"I first saw Michael* on the TV news. He'd been couch surfing for years and was being handed keys to his very own new and secure unit. He's only 17. Gratitude and gratefulness radiated on his face. It impacted on me and I wanted to meet him. This is his story." (Kay, member of the City of Hobart's Housing with Dignity Reference Group).
Kay is 75-years-old. She has a lived experience of severe housing stress and in this recording she is interviewing Michael* who became homeless at aged 13. This interview was done as part of the I Am Somebody project.
I Am Somebody is a multimedia art project facilitated by the City of Hobart's Housing with Dignity Reference Group, in collaboration with Tasmanian documentary audio artist Helene Thomas and photographer Andrew Wilson. It honours the unique stories of community members and tells of the impacts living without a home has had on all aspects of their lives.
