Born and raised in the Carolina Mountains, I was taught to take pride in who I am and where I come from. There's an old world grit that trickles down from the the mountaintops and it runs through the veins of this culture.
On the other hand... there's also a plague. It's haunted these hills for years. It turns grit into grime... it turns proud souls into slaves.
