The Struggle to Know Episode 4: Going Back
With Special Guests Abdul Alim Yayha Coates and Dawud Muhammad
In this episode we talk about the journey that many of our African American Muslim brothers take, away from the identity of enslavement and its ugly aftermath, towards the nobility of their ancestry, homelands and traditions.
From shedding slave names, to traveling back to Africa to find some of what was lost from their legacy, going back is never easy, but it is supremely necessary, and magnanimously rewarding.
We dialogue through socially conscious hip-hop, Malcolm X, Muslim slave resistance in the US, to the splendor of the cities and markets founded by the saintly scholars of West Africa, and the radiant scholarly and spiritual tradition they continue to maintain, and how many African Americans and Muslims in general reconnect with it, thus finding their way home.
