After being condemned to death, Jesus was dressed in a robe and a crown of thorns before being mocked by the soldiers. Forced to carry his cross, he was then led just outside the city walls to Golgotha. The physical pain Jesus endured on the cross was undeniably excruciating. But the emotional pain he experienced in the form of rejection, belittlement, and mockery– the loneliness and isolation– the dehumanization– is equally horrifying. This week we explore Jesus’s suffering, and how we might see ourselves in Jesus’ lived experience on the cross.
