Jesus began his public ministry with a profound and jaw-dropping sermon in his hometown of Nazareth, where he read from Isaiah 61-- a prophetic text that the coming of the Messiah will be punctuated by a proclamation of jubilee. We begin our series by exploring the roots of this “year of the Lord’s favor” that Jesus announces, why it elicited the reaction it did in the synagogue, and the implications that all of that has for us as Jesus’ followers today.
