Thalia Goldstein, a psychologist at George Mason University, studies that and associated questions, looking at the role of drama in building social and emotional skills as director of the Social Skills, Imagination and Theatre Lab in Fairfax, Virginia.
Goldstein was in Dublin recently to take part in the Neurohumanities lecture series at TCD, where Louise Williams went to meet her and ask her about the role of drama in supporting schoolchildren affected by school shootings, about how emotional skills can be measured, and about the not always straightforward relationship between creativity and empathy.
