1. Read Luke 4:14-30 together as a group.

Interpretation: In 2-3 sentences, summarize the main ideas of this passage in your own words. What is God saying in this text and why?

Comprehension: Read verses 18-19. In these verses, there are five specific things that Jesus came to accomplish. What are those?

Comprehension: Read Luke 4:43. What is Jesus’ stated purpose for coming to earth as fully God and fully man?

Interpretation: How do the five things listed in verses 18 and 19 help accomplish Jesus’ stated purpose in verse 43? Explain your answer.

Application: How can you personally join in with Jesus’ work? What is one step you can take this week?

Interpretation: Practically speaking, who are the poor? Who are the captives? Who are the blind? Who are the oppressed? Explain your answer.

Application: Before Jesus, were you poor? Blind? Captive? Oppressed? What did that look like? How did Jesus change you? Be honest and specific.
