I record with an open XY mic on the zoom6 and crush it into the dessicated pine needle forest floor so that it's half underground. Bat detector, dormant VLF, Hack Rf radio, Tecsun shortwave. I wait and listen. I don't know what will come next. The air is clean and the forest near the river quiet and still dry. I reflect upon the fact that in high summer I would never be here because of the bramble and the pervasive poison ivy. Motorboats come up the river Warta and they seem to have some music mutely thudding about. The woodpecker arrives. I attempt to erect the zoom6 microphone to catch woody the pecking head bird engaging the nearby tree and start a new segment but that bird had flown.
