What's important in Music, for me, is what I sense as a mysterious confluence of MOVEMENT, MEANING & ENERGY.
This movement has to varying degrees a certain resonance with truth, a resonance that is beyond the things that normally concern us as poets and musicians, like sound, or notation, or measure of any kind.
So, in a way, with music like ONE CONFUSION IS PANDEMIC, we are trying to re-resonate with the ground of truth--which is essentially unknowable--all the while ironically lamenting the loss of truth.
This movement of meaning and energy frequently already exists, silently enfolded, in the texts themselves. So composing is a wonderful way of unfolding what is already there, and making it manifest in living sound so that we can both experience it directly and share it with one another.
Of course, we can ask ourselves if anything on Soundcloud, or anything recorded for that matter, is really alive, really authentic. Perhaps it is merely at best a 2nd-hand reflection, or, at worst, an illusion. I leave that to the listener to decide.
A "Grief Circle" attunes to this movement as a kind of ritual of purification; By singing and chanting and drumming together we deeply resonate with this movement, (I actually do this for hours at a time, as part of predawn YOGA / AT practice....SEE Talking Hands / Talking Feet https://soundcloud.com/cliff-crego/sets/talking-hands-talking-feet)
And so it heals, both us & the world around us.
At the end of the circle, the energy naturally is released--rushes, explodes, as it were--in a movement of convergence, like once quiet water suddenly breaching a cliff and then crashing down a steep granite gorge. I find this personally liberating.
HERE IS THE text, or sutra, or aphorism of the soundpoem. What we do in THE CIRCLE IN THE SQUARE is learn these little crystalline poems by heart, and then step them into musical patterns of movement:
ONCE CONFUSION IS PANDEMIC, the most radical,
creative form of resistance is clarity.
As the mud settles on the turbulent waters
of collective awareness, we see--
the use of democracy to destroy democracy,
the use of tolerance to destroy tolerance,
the use of freedom of speech to destroy freedom of speech,
for what they are: unjust, violent,
mean-spirited assaults on truth itself.
With clarity comes right action, for it
instantly gives new energy to everything
we make, say, and do.

For friends following my New Music, Poetry & Dance Project, THE CIRCLE IN THE SQUARE www.cs-music.com, the complementarities that generate the movement are:
(0) Synch / Asynch (from the 'one sound' of unison to all voices moving independently)
(1) Smooth / Rough (texture, attacks, amplitude, etc. a fractal & natural changing "degree of roughness")
(2) Simple / Complex (from unison, to sounds within sound within sounds (replacing the highly distorted false opposition of tonal / atonal...))
(3) Directionality (from floating w/o direction / hyperdirectional, like an arrow to a target)
(4) Discrete / Continuous (mostly from fixed one-tone unison, to voice glissandi, but also can be heard in background tempi glissandi)
NOTE: The sound I'm looking for the CORO MUSICS is part choir of mountain monks, and part chain gang in the prison of thought and ignorance. I see myself as a happy, devoted member of both.
(1) TEXT ONLY version is also on Soundcloud https://soundcloud.com/cliff-crego/confusion-is-pandemic-a-metaphysical-soundpoem
