During World War I, on November 11, 1918, a negotiated armistice was declared and the truce effectively ended the war. In 1919, on the first anniversary of the truce, Brattleboro held a large celebration to remember those who had died during the war, and honor those veterans who were able to return home. Here's a story that begins with Brattleboro's first Armistice Day and weaves its way through the West Brattleboro Cemetery, the Civil War and World War II.
