In 1861 Streeter volunteered to serve in the 1st regiment of the United States Sharp Shooters. Research by students at Brattleboro Area Middle School found that Streeter lived a great deal of his short adult life under a cloud of suspicion and died in 1864 of circumstances unrelated to the Civil War.
