In 1928 a local columnist, Vrest Orton, wrote an article for the Brattleboro Reformer entitled, “A Weird Writer is in Our Midst.” The column was about H.P. Lovecraft. Howard Phillips Lovecraft was a writer from Providence, Rhode Island who would later become well-known for his science fiction/fantasy/horror stories.
