Michael Kearney was a scholar of Persian who is known today as a contributor to an American publication containing the first and fourth editions of Edward Fitzgeralds’s translation of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. Kearney provided a biographical sketch of Fitzgerald, and a series of appended notes which contain his own renderings of fifty of the quatrains.
The following selection of Kearney’s translations has been taken from Nathan Haskell Dole’s monumental study The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyam: English, French, and German translations comparatively arranged in accordance with the text of Edward Fitzgerald's version , which was published in 1896.
