A Flight of Fancy
A flight of fancy, just spread your wings
Takes you on the way to better things
The working day, working away
It's not easy, back-breaking, low pay
A flight of fancy, can change your life
Rue the higher plain, more play, less strife
Out of your comfort zone, and into the blue
A chance you have to take, you know what to do
A flight of fancy, just take your time
Reach for the skies again, it's a slower climb
A million migrant flyers, since times of old
Flying the distance, just to escape the cold
In life many questions, and flight holds the clue
Take to the skies again, to find out what is true
I capture the answer, but didn't think it through
In flight there are questions, and an ending of blue
A million migrant flyers, take epochs of old
Flying the distance, just to escape the crushing cold
A flight of fancy, just spread your wings
Takes you on the way, to better things

In a pristine blue sky, the birds do their thing.
Occurred to me recently that my lyrics may well have emerged from my subconscious as a metamorphosis of the Richard Bach story "Jonathan Livingston Seagull", which I read in the early 1980s as an inquisitive, impressionable teen.
