Description

Rob Pitts breaks down Jesus' statement "I am the Door", which can be found in John 10: 7-10.

He talks about how sheep are dependent on their shepherd, just as we're dependent on Jesus. In Jesus' day, sheep slept together in stone pens, and their shepherd would sleep in the entrance, keeping the sheep safely inside.

Jesus is the only way to salvation, as in 1 Timothy 2:5 which states that Jesus was the one mediator between man and God.

The only way into the safety of the sheep pen is through Jesus, who stands in the entrance. But the entrance is narrow. We can't bring everything in with us. We have to let go of our old life - symbolised in baptism - in return for reliance on God.

We need to begin life with the Shepherd. He wants to take us on a journey, which may pass through rough terrain, to somewhere better than where we are. He wants to protect us from the enemy that prowls the wilds, looking to devour.

In Revelation 4:1, John wrote "After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven."

In the opening to Heaven stands Jesus, the Door, with His arms open wide. We're invited to come to Jesus and enter through Him into God's kingdom. Will you choose Him to be your Shepherd today?
