Steff Hodgson speaks on prayer, daily discipline, and forming good habits.
Hebrews 12:11 urges us to see the WHY behind cultivating sometimes-painful disciplines. Our lives are transformed by our habits.
Steff emphasises that the strength of our relationship with God influences the quality of our prayer life. In the same way as with other people, we need good habits in prayer:
- Be available.
- Remove distractions.
- Be consistent.
- Be confident.
- Make it a priority and schedule in quality time.
The Bible challenges us to find time to pray, but we also need to have grace with ourselves. We aren't looking to become legalistic or religious about our habits.
We don't need to always be talking to God, but we should pray regularly and over our struggles and decisions. And we can say whatever we're feeling: He can take it.
The word 'shepherd' can be translated as 'best friend'. If we read Psalm 23 in this light, it takes on a new meaning. We can see that unbelievable love is available through prayer.
