Bonn return to Polycarp Records this December with more of their unique twist on electronica, house and techno with the ‘XIIX’ EP.
Hamburg, Germany’s duo Simon Ferdinand and Basch better known under their Bonn guise have individually and together been delivering soul-infused electronic music over the past decade, predominantly via their own Polycarp Records. Here the pair return once again with a new three-track, once again showcasing the depth and dynamism of their production prowess.
Leading the EP is ‘Son Air’, a tripped out journey traversing through glitchy broken percussion, spoken word vocals, dreamy synth chimes and elongated subs before the latter half of the compositions works in a heavy breakbeat drum workout and rave stab sequence.
‘Phase 2 Face’ then showcases the duo’s deeper side, fusing bumpy toms, sturdy kicks and shuffled hats with ethereal textures, boomy low end tones and airy synth chimes. The aptly titled ‘Tension’ then rounds out the release, a subtly blooming, cinematic groove fuelled by an intricate rhythm section, weighty subs, choppy chords and vacillating atmospherics throughout.
