Never on Monday Records A band of harlequined misfits set out to outwit the script. Sacrificing souls to sound, they formed a sensual yet nonsensical sonic circus. For over a decade, this collective has crafted music for music’s sake inspired by funk, groove, house, tech, downtempo, pop, rock, weirdness, electronica, polka, and everything in-between. Over time, this shapeshifting art project has crystallized into several musical acts—each with its own style and spirit. The boundaries blur as collaborations across these artists have become the norm. Other musicians, pulled in by their liberated vibe, have also joined the troubled troupe to add their own playful flair. When will who be where? This is not your average label. Before each invited artist can be showcased, the Never on Monday collective requires a collaboration. Together, they craft an exclusive piece that is released alongside each artist’s individual work. This experiment gives rise to music that's as boundless and unique as their intersecting individual creative journeys.
Mathew Jonson’s solo outing ‘Loves Mommy’ takes the lead, an eighteen minute excursion through delicately nuanced synth lines, jazzy keys, hypnotic textures and Jonson’s signature robust rhythm section. Next up is madnax and kanova featuring Olivia & Masta B with ‘D.A.N.C.E’, fuelled by swinging breaks, a chuggy bass groove and psychedelic vocals. Mathew Jonson joins madnax for ‘Love Never Dies’ next, diving deep into resonant synth bleeps and textural tones which ebb and flow around dynamic drums, dubbed out keys and hypnotic vocal lines.
Flipping the switch entirely next is ‘Clown Syndrome’ courtesy of Mathew Jonson, EVSTAD and madnax, a dropped tempo number fuelled by intricately intertwined keys, chords and crisp drums, while hooky Latin vocals and accordion licks further fuel the playful vibe. Argenis Brito and Guti’s ‘Amazonico’ follows next, embracing the pairs classic percussive style with squelchy acid notes and swelling subs before EVSTAD’s solo cut ‘Yugen’ rounds out the release, a tripped out ambient journey through warbling pads, modulating percussive clicks, snaking bass tones and spoken word vocals.
