Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools by Monique W. Morris, details the way in which black girls are, as NPR writes, being mischaracterized and mislabeled by a unique combination of racism and sexism. These biases play out in many ways, from black girls being dress coded more often to being suspended at a much higher rate. KCSB Reporter Nkechi Ikem interviews author of Pushout, Monique Morris. Monique W. Morris, the author of Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools, comes to UC Santa Barbara this week.
