Beginning on July 2, 2023, around 15,000 hospitality workers walked off the job to strike for better wages and working conditions as part of the UNITE HERE Local 11 union, forming picket lines at some of the biggest hotels in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. This effort comes after many workers cannot afford to live closer to the cities in which they work. No progress was reported in negotiations between employers and the union, and though they returned to work on Wednesday, their union warned another work stoppage could occur.
