Back in 2010, UC Santa Barbara agreed to cap enrollment and build more housing by 2025, or once they had 25,000 undergraduate students – whichever happens first. That promise, under the Long Range Development Plan, has not been fulfilled – UCSB still has 3,500 additional beds they must supply. Munger Hall has been proposed as a way to meet those housing needs, all in one place. The 9-story megadorm has been making headlines for over a year now, when word spread about its limited number of windows and small-scale single bedrooms.
