Last year’s el nino left East Africa extremely dry and without resources. How do you stop people from going hungry when there is no water to grow food? Shrad Shukla, an Assistant Researcher with the Climate Hazards Group at UCSB and Chris Funk, a research geographer at UCSB are working with Chris Shitote, the Assistant Regional Scientist of east Africa to inform policymakers of hazardous climate conditions months ahead of time. KCSB's Kendra Lee spoke with them about el nino conditions, how these conditions have affected East African harvests, and the NASA SERVIR program.
