The pandemic brought upon financial hardships and difficult transitions in to remote education for UC students. All the while, they continue to pay full tuition. With $22 million in federal funding unspent by UC Santa Barbara, UCSB’s Young Democratic Socialists of America are demanding that the university issue $900 checks to students. KCSB's Aubrey Valerio spoke to Patrick Fairbanks and Taylor Clark from the YDSA as well as AS off-campus senator Esmeralda Quintero about the university’s response to the demands.
