Today on Sojourner Truth:
On Tuesday, January 12, the House of Representatives is expected to vote on a measure calling for Donald Trump to be removed from office through the 25th Amendment following the armed and violent insurrection at the US Capitol last week. Democratic lawmakers in the House have introduced a single charge of impeachment " incitement of insurrection " against Trump. The impeachment measure has the backing of over 200 Democratic co-sponsors, according to MSNBC. According to the latest polls, 56 percent of the public support Trump's removal.
Despite their lives being put in danger with the armed insurrection that took place on Wednesday, January 6, House Republicans refused to give unanimous consent to the resolution urging Pence to start the process. Nevertheless, support is growing for Trump to be indicted under federal, state and DC laws for his role in inciting the deadly event. On Monday, January 11, newly-elected Congresswoman Cori Bush filed formal legislation urging the removal of any elected officials involved in inciting last Wednesdays deadly terrorist insurrection. The legislation invokes Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, which allows Congress to remove any legislators engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the United States.
Also on Monday, January 11, the U.S. Supreme Court formally refused to put on a fast track election challenge filed by Trump and his allies. The top court denied pleas for quick consideration of cases involving the outcome in five states won by Joe Biden: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
Our guests are Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Jody David Armour and Marjorie Cohn.
