Today on Sojourner Truth:
The market versus the environment. Fires, hurricanes, floods, drought, water shortages, land grabs in Africa, Asia and other parts of the Global South for corporate mega farms, monoculture tree plantations, utter disregard for Indigenous people and forest dwellers, while frankly killing us all. Who is taking this seriously as people and creatures die, are movements for social change as well as political class taking all this seriously? We cant breathe!
Racism as a public health crisis, with a particular focus on law enforcement who seem to think they are the new slave catchers. Los Angeles is an epicenter. As many increasingly refer to Donald Trump as the white supremacist in chief, he daily seems to reinforce that title. His latest salvo? Revisionist history of the U.S., he attacks the late historian Howard Zinn, author of a Peoples History of the United States, as well as the NYT 1619 project and announced that he is establishing a 1776 Commission for Patriotic Curriculum. He said students have to be proud of US history I guess that means proud of slavery and genocide of Indigenous peoples? And his Attorney has contrasted the Covid-19 lockdown with slavery.
On the international front: the market and regional military political control vs the Palestinians; the nexus of Israel, US, UAE, Bahrain all with eyes on targeting Iran. And the continued ramping it up versus China. The U.S. takeover of Inter-American Bank and little Barbados stands up and stands out.
