Today on Sojourner Truth:

The Houthis in Yemen have claimed responsibility for a drone attack that struck two major facilities run by Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabia's state-owned oil giant. This has impacted five percent of the global oil supply, with oil prices in the U.S. jumping to 14.7 percent on Monday, September 16, according to CNN. It looks as though the U.S. will now likely have to dig into its oil reserves. Our guest is Hassan El-Tayyab, the Friends Committee on National Legislation lead lobbyist on Middle East policy.

50,000 United Auto Workers are out on strike against General Motors. The strike began on Sunday, September 15, after the workers' contract ran out on Saturday, September 14. Workers are demanding fair wages, affordable healthcare, a share in profits, job security, a defined path to permanent seniority for temp workers, and more. Thirty three manufacturing plants have been shut down in nine states and 22 parts and distributors have also been shut down. This is the first strike against General Motors since a two-day strike in 2007. Meanwhile, janitorial workers with the United Auto Workers are also on strike. Our guest is Maureen Taylor.

On Friday, September 20, thousands of people called by the youth (a lot of them high school students) around the world are expected to participate in a global climate strike, bringing attention to the urgent state of the ongoing environmental crisis and climate change. Our guest is Paula Kahn.
