Description

June 19th marks the nation’s only nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. It is marked in Black communities across the nation, but has not gained recognition as a national holiday. June 19th is the day that those enslaved in Texas found out about the Emancipation Proclamation, two and a half years after it was issued!

Guests include historian Dr. Gerald Horne on assassinated civil rights activist Medgar Evers and actor and activist Mr. Danny Glover about the fight in Mississippi of Nissan workers.

Also, attorney Irving Joyner who has been part of the clergy led “Moral Mondays” protests held each Monday in North Carolina since April 29th. As of this past Monday there have been more than 480 arrests.
