Today we remember Asian American civil rights activist Yuri Kochiyama, who passed away this Sunday at the age of 93. Kochiyama is remembered for her work building bridges between the Black and Asian American communities and bringing to light the mass internment of Japanese Americans during World War 2. She was a friend of Malcolm X and was at his side when he was assassinated in 1965 in the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem. In 2010 she sat down with Angela Davis in the documentary film “Mountains that Take Wing,” for a conversation about the work of social justice and the life she lived trying make that justice a reality. Today, we bring you that conversation.
