Description

It probably doesn't get more particular than this — a Latin American cross-generational mix by Jasmín and her mother (Lamadre). We were so charmed earlier this year when Jasmín invited her mother to join her monthly radioshow on Stranded FM. The rich collage of past and present that resulted, made us beg for more of a DJ and her mother highlighting their musical upbringing.

The mix is a journey along Latin American music from both past and present. As the mother of Jasmin Hoek (Jasmín's real name) grew up in Argentina, both are brought up and are familiar with the traditional sounds of Tango, Cumbia, Samba, Reggaeton, Tropicália and more. Oddities ripped from old CD's are put next to contemporary sounds from Latin America to offer a musical trip with high contrasts.

Besides Latin American sounds, Lamadre (la madre is Spanish for ‘the mom’) has been obsessively listening, exploring, and playing all kinds of music throughout her lifetime: from occasionally behind the decks at parties back in Rosario, Argentina in her twenties into their family home in Enschede. The latter most definitely laid the music nerd foundation for Jasmín.

Jasmín is a DJ residing in Amsterdam that plays international clubs and festivals and has her regular show on Red Light Radio (Petting Dogs) and Stranded FM. Next to djing she writes about music and club culture for various platforms, using her Gender Studies background as a framework.
