‘Higher and Higher’ opens this release with a perpetual house groove and upbeat soul samples, as James pays respect to his influences through sounds reminiscent of the crackin' snares on SO:HO’s ‘Hot Music’ and the noisiness of ‘Ventura’ by Thomas Bangalter - all layered together through playful programming and surprising twists & turns. Fans of his highly admired Shoes edits will unquestionably find a new favorite with this one.
Next is the bass heavy, mid-tempo breaks jam ‘Full Blossom Squash’. Driven by chopped up hip hop syllables, and the sumptuous rhythm of bossa nova influenced percussion. Indeed, “muito legal!”
