It’s difficult for us, living in the 21st century, to grasp how astonishing the claim John makes, that Babylon is fallen, really is. To both admirers and enemies alike, Rome seemed invincible. Yet John sees its demise as so certain he describes this future reality in the past tense. As the church we are called to ‘come out’ of Babylon and look to a better city. The new Jerusalem that comes down out of heaven. This is the tale of two cities: the city of man and the city of God.
