Habakkuk is faced with a period of economic disaster v17. We see how he is both real about the situation and yet how he then moves to a place of confidence in God. Christian maturity is often defined by our ability to be real about our fears and anxieties as well as then taking them before a kind and gracious saviour. Like Habakkuk, we need to learn the secret of choosing to rejoice v18, to receive God’s strength in the calamity. Only then will we have the agility, like a deer on high places v19, to navigate our way through all of life’s trials.
