Paul is deeply concerned that Israel’s unbelief might undermine our trust in God’s promises. He explains that God’s intention was always to save some of Israel, not all, using Isaac and Jacob as examples of how God chooses some to rescue. We saw that God’s choice of us is the ground of our salvation. God’s election is an act of mercy, undeserved and unearned.
