Paul concludes this section of the letter by promising the full salvation of both Gentile and Jew. The promise to the gentiles is that they will be grafted into God’s people. The promise to the Jews is that ultimately all Israel will be saved. These truths are the antidote to anti-Semitism where Gentiles are the majority in the church in Rome. These gentiles, like us, are warned not to take their salvation for granted but to remember both God’s kindness and severity. Paul climaxes with a doxology, like a climber reaching the summit of a great mountain, he lays his arguments aside to erupt in praise and thanksgiving. All good theology leads to abundant praise and all true worship is fuelled by rich doctrine… the Apostle Paul gives us both.
