We have reached the theological summit of the story of Abraham. For 40 odd years and through 10+ chapters we’ve traced the journey of God’s man of faith. The ups and downs and how God has been shaping him into the Abraham we find now. God asks of Abraham one more monumental request; to sacrifice the child of promise. Abraham in obedience is fully consecrated to God – he has given up his past and now he gives over his future. Hidden in these verses we are able to look beyond this story to a bigger story. To the day when our heavenly Father would willingly give up his one and only son whom he loves, not as a test, but as a saviour. Truly on that mount, the hill of Calvary the Lord has provided!
