The short passage about the Millennium in Revelation conjures up fascination, confusion and disagreement in almost equal measure. Like a chess game, Revelation 20 speaks of the devil being held in check, being released to create further havoc, as if the game had reached a stalemate (though the contest is never equal), before Christ finally and fully checkmates him. Debates about the meaning of the millennium should not distract us from celebrating the absolute defeat of evil and the beings that promote it in God's good creation.
