American Actor Danny Glover speaks at ACTU Change the Rules Conference.
Legal firm Slater & Gordon paid for the opening night of the ACTU congress in Brisbane on 16 July 2018 with US film actor, Danny Glover, its star attraction. The alcohol alone would have cost a lot. How does this help the working class?

Glover tried to tie in union organising with the rights of first nations people. He quoted James Baldwin: "If we cannot tell ourselves the truth about our past then we become trapped in it".

The same could be said of how the union movement has failed to challenge the wages system by going for an independent umpire in the Fair Work Act. They want to bring back central wage fixing in response to neo-liberal attacks on our right to organise.

At least McManus & McLennan have recognised that without the right to strike we are doomed.

However I do not think that bringing in movie stars from the US will help us win back the right to organise in our workplaces.
