Book launch in 1988 of 'These things shall be! Bob Ross, socialist pioneer, his life and times, a case study' by Edgar Ross introduced by Bob Ross, Edgar's son and Bob's grandson.
Edgar Ross, the former editor of the miners paper, Common Cause, wrote a book about his father Robert Samuel Ross who was one of the early founders of the labour movement in Australia. The book, 'These things shall be! : Bob Ross, socialist pioneer, his life and times, a case study" by Edgar Ross was launched just after a series broadcast on the ABC called The True Believers' written by Bob Ellis about labor party leaders after the second world War. Ben Chifley, as prime minister, in 1949 ordered troops to break a strike in the coal fields around Newcastle in the Hunter Valley.
In his speech Edgar Ross exposes 'The True Believers' by Bob Ellis as a fabrication of history. In the same vein as Ernie Lane in 'Dawn to Dusk - Reminiscences of a rebel' Edgar explains the relationship between the Labor Party and the Communists in Australia.
