Coal Climate Change Actions in Qld after jailing of activist and failure of COP26.
Sergieo (Eric Herbert):
"I was sentenced to 12 months in prison for having a political opinion near the scene of a crime, which is a coal port. "
Andy Paine (while locked on to Adani railway line): "The Australian government has shown that they are either not capable or not willing to take the action needed to stop climate disaster. It is people power that has slowed down and downsized Adani Carmichael mine and its people power, people of conscience with courage and creativity. That is going to be the only thing that can save us from climate disaster. "
Anon: "We are in the middle of the climate breakdown, and we have to stop burning coal to provide a safer future."
Paul Jukes (from the top of a coal reclaimer stacker at Abbott Point):
"They're going to put my life at risk because of some money. When I'm actually quite safe. I know what I'm doing. I've been rock climbing for 30 years so so I don't see any need for them to be doing what they're doing."
Jonathan Sri (Councillor for the Gabba ward): "We are disgusted that state and federal governments have failed to take meaningful action on climate change. And we are particularly disappointed that climate activists who are standing up for the future of this planet and future generations have been locked up when they should be free to continue peaceful protesting. What we're seeing here is an attack on democracy. It's an attack on the climate. It's attack on our future. And all Australians need to be rising up and saying no more. Australia is becoming a global pariah because of our failure to take meaningful action to address climate change, while other countries are transitioning to renewable while other countries are creating a safe path for workers to switch to other industries. Australia is digging itself into a deeper hole when and we're going to be left behind economically. "
Michael Berkmann (Greens MP for Maiwar)
"Look, I think join in, get involved in the protest. Get involved with organizations who are continuing to take the fight to government and contact your MPs, contact them directly and tell them that you're not going to stand around and you're not going to watch while they start locking up peaceful protesters who are simply trying to fight for a safe climate for our kids."
