The Hill and Wood - Alas, Alone

When I first get home
From another tour
I slowly close the door
And stand inside my walls

The water’s reached a boil
I cannot find my phone
It’s strange to be alone
With no one left to call

It’s not anything that no one’s felt before
It’s a place that is best left unexplored
The idea of sitting in a chair
Alone, all quiet, just leaves me scared

How come you’re not here?
How could I forget?
My memory’s regret
It’s all that I hold dear.

You left in the middle of what I thought was small
Wrote a note out and stuck it to the wall
I was working, writing down this song
When I looked up you were already gone
A choice I didn’t know I made
Now it feels like such a crummy trade.
Right now I’d like to be anywhere
But alone, all quiet, and still in this chair
