Americans have a long history of taking things into their own hands, and even though you can't see the forest for the trees, we are in the middle of one such time right now. It is a struggle to restore a national identity, and to reconnect with the spirit of independence—untrusting of not only a Monarch, but the Mob as well.
I am hoping the last 7 minutes of the depiction of the vote for Independence in HBO's John Adams is taken as fair use for education and commentary purposes. I have recommended people watch that series for a long while now, and do not claim any of it to be my own.
