How can we know the difference between being sorry for our sin or being sorry for the consequences of our sin? Godly sorrow for sin leads us to repentance, but worldly sorrow leads to spiritual death. In Judges 6, Israel cries out to God for help because their circumstances have gotten so bad, but they still don’t believe God’s ways are the best way to the best life. Until we become convinced our way is not the best way to be happy we cannot escape the endless cycle of “sin, regret, repent,” but God wants us to turn from our sin, and live in freedom.
