1O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever?
How long will you look the other way?
2How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul,
with sorrow in my heart every day?
How long will my enemy have the upper hand?
3Turn and answer me, O Lord my God!
Restore the sparkle to my eyes, or I will die.
4Don’t let my enemies gloat, saying, “We have defeated him!”
Don’t let them rejoice at my downfall.
5But I trust in your unfailing love.
I will rejoice because you have rescued me.
6I will sing to the Lord
because he is good to me.
Instructions for writing your Lament
The goal of writing a Lament is to tell God what you honestly feel, ask for what you need, and commit to trust God. Don’t worry about trying to write it perfectly, instead, just write what comes to your heart and mind. You can use the guide below to help you organize your thoughts.
Oh Lord, I feel __________________
Write out your complaints to God using “why?” and “how long?” questions.
How long will I feel this way?
Why is this happening to me?
Write your requests to God. What do you want him to do for you?
Help me, show up, give it back, defend me, respond to me, etc.
But I will choose to trust you, Oh Lord. I will trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have saved me. I will sing to the Lord because he is good to me.
