Masterworks Music offshoot Deep Cutz returns for its second sonic adventure with five deep house cuts that brilliantly live up to the label's name. Coming all the way from Bogota, Colombia courtesy of Joint4Nine AKA Ivan Lozano, the EP is packed full of deep house flavour, cleverly updated with samples, acid wiggles and monster basslines.
Opener 'Can't You See I Need You (Babe)' sets the tone thanks to its pulsing sub-bass, fizzing synths, restless percussion and deep pads that give away to jazzy keys and a clever vocal sample. 'I Want It' builds on that classic deep house template a step further with a rib-tickling bassline that wobbles and surges on top of classic 90s house vocals. 'Shouts' then strips things back with 808 hits, broken snare patterns and jazzy riffs, taking the EP into Jazzanova territory. 'Timeless' is a return to peak-time form. The deep house template of bass-heavy kicks and echoing pads is updated with a panned synth bleep that evolves into an acid flex, taking the track firmly into the modern-day. EP closer 'Yes It Does' uses the fizzing acid energy from the previous track and combines it with a stunning sample packed with life-giving strings and that gorgeous, breathy 'Yes It Does' vocal.
Simple, but always dynamic thanks to the inventive percussion and classic 808 and 909 fills, it's destined to be a dancefloor destroyer when things start opening up again.
