"Committed or Completed?" (Acts 19:1-7)
Paul asks these 12 disciples, “Into what, then were you baptized?” when he discovered they had not received the Holy Spirit.
I have discovered through the years in talking with thousands of people about their faith journey that this is an important question for us all to ask ourselves.
When you were baptized, what was the reason for it? Was it to receive the forgiveness of sins that can only come through Jesus and commit yourself to serving Him as Lord, or was it for some other reason? You see, the reason in your heart at the time of baptism makes the difference as to what you were baptized into. The Holy Spirit is given to those who repent and are baptized in the name of Jesus for the forgiveness of sins.
Here is a list of other things I have learned people have been baptized into:
John’s baptism – a baptism of repentance
Church
Denominational
Religion
“My friend did it”
“Everybody else is doing it”
“To please my parents”
“Turn over a new leaf
How about you? “Into what, then were you baptized?”
