Jesus hasn’t called us to be better people. He has called us to take up our cross and follow Him. Dying to self is not just simply trying to be good for God. Instead, it is living daily the prayer that Jesus prayed at Gethsemane, “Nevertheless, not My will, but Thy will be done.”
