Description

In Psalm 103 David’s spirit tells his soul to do two things.
First, David tells his soul to “Bless the Lord.”
Then he tells his soul to “Forget not His benefits.”
He then lists five benefits of a right relationship with The Lord, and the ensuing results of this:
pardon for your iniquities,
healing for your diseases;
redemption of your life from the pit,
crowning with lovingkindness and compassion;
satisfaction of your years with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.
David is wise to command his soul to stay focused on these benefits because even those who have enjoyed these benefits can be so easily distracted and forget. Prosperity, need, temptation, sin, guilt, calamities, tragedies, and busyness can all cause us to forget. Yes, and sometimes a perfect storm of several distractions can hit us all at once or in rapid succession.
Here’s the good news: If you have forgotten these benefits, they are still available. Which do you need to remember today?
