I Kings 11:4-11
In the accounts of David and Solomon we see that God made promise to David and to his descendants. There is a condition, though. They must keep His statutes, commandments, ordinances and testimonies. David embraces the conditions, and is blessed. Solomon, on the other hand, disregards them and finds that God was deadly serious about the consequences.
No man began with more promise than Solomon did. Yet a good beginning doesn’t mean a good finish. Solomon drifted and finally defected. We need to learn from the accounts of David and Solomon how important it is to guard our hearts and how to do so.
