Marks of a Christian: Loyalty
Matthew 26:30-35, 69-75
Of all the elements that seem to have slipped from our culture in this age is the element of loyalty. As we look at our culture we are finding its absence in relationships at all levels : marriages, families, friendships, churches and our nation.
The Bible makes it clear that one of the defining marks of a Christian is loyalty at all levels. Sadly, as the church has drifted from our Lord and His Word, and the world has seeped in, we find many exhibiting a conditional loyalty, one that is professed, but is embraced only so long as it doesn’t become inconvenient or uncomfortable.
How hollow would our excuses for being disloyal to our Lord sound if we stood at the foot of the Cross and explained to Him why we chose convenience and comfort over our relationship to Him, recognizing all the inconvenience and discomfort He chose to endure for us?
